WHAT IS USUI REIKI RYOHO?

Usui Reiki Ryoho or the Usui Reiki method is an extremely safe, gentle yet powerful natural healing system which  is believed to have its roots in ancient Tibetan Buddhism.  It was  rediscovered in Japan during  the 19th century and subsequently developed into the Usui Reiki during the early part of the 20th century by Dr Mikao Usui, its founder.  However, despite its roots, there is no dogma attached to Reiki.  It is not a belief system but rather supports any beliefs you may or may not have.  It's not faith healing so you don't have to believe in its effectiveness for it to work and it is not necessary to believe in God only in the power of love.  

Reiki is Divine energy. It is pure unconditional love.

 WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A REIKI TREATMENT AT NEW BEGINNINGS?

Reiki is non-invasive and takes place with the recipient fully clothed either lying on a treatment couch, seated upright or reclining in a chair.  All you will be asked to remove are your shoes and any heavy jewellery.

New Beginnings is a safe space.  It is very calm and tranquil and the healing begins the moment you enter.  Usually I play relaxing music, burn incense or diffuse essential oils to aid relaxation and start the treatment with a brief consultation.  However, there is no need to go in depth as there are few, if any contraindications with Reiki.  Reiki works for the highest good of the individual with the recipient drawing in the exact amount of energy they need as the I channel the Reiki energy.

I like to work intuitively allowing the Reiki to guide my hands where they are needed and after the treatment you will have the opportunity, if you so wish, to discuss your experiences or any health concerns.  I will then offer specific aftercare advice to facilitate healing drawing on my knowledge as a complementary therapist and the treatment is usually followed up with two or three distance Reiki treatments included in the price of the session to accelerate healing.

HOW WILL I FEEL DURING THE TREATMENT?

No two healings are ever alike but that said most clients feel deeply relaxed and often fall asleep or drift away into a meditative space throughout the treatment. No pressure is involved making Reiki suitable for everyone including the very young and the elderly. Most people feel heat, warmth or a pleasant tingling sensation as the hands rest lightly on their body.  Others report a gentle pulsating, see colours or have visions although it is quite common to feel nothing more than deep relaxation.  Some people feel invigorated immediately following the treatment whereas others feel sleepy but rest assured whatever feelings or sensations you receive during a treatment are specific to you and right for you at that particular time.  Reiki is Divine energy which always works for the highest good.

HOW LONG DOES A REIKI SESSION LAST?

Although you can benefit from just fifteen minutes a full Reiki treatment will last around an hour or just over an hour.  However, I don't work to a strict timescale as I believe in giving you all the time necessary for healing therefore if the energy is still flowing after an hour the Reiki treatment will continue.  Please also remember to add the consultation and period and post-treatment aftercare advice to the session and it is recommended that you allow around two hours in all.   A further two or three distance Reiki treatments are included as part of your healing.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

This will depend on why you are having the treatment.  Acute problems often clear up with just one session whereas chronic complaints will need several sessions to gain maximum benefit.  The effects are accumulative so the more treatments you have the greater the effect and I usually suggest a minimum of three treatments on consecuitve weeks with absent healing sent in between treatments.  We can then we can re-assess the suitation. 

However, you don't need to be ill to enjoy Reiki.  After all it's a great way to relax and regular healing will boost the immune system, increase energy levels, promote deep refreshing sleep and relieve stress and tension.

WHAT PROBLEMS WILL REIKI TREAT?

Reiki always works for the hightest good and  supports conventional medicine, homeopathic and herbal remedies as well as other complementary therapies.  It can be used to treat any ailment and works by eliminating the stress and tension underpinning most illness while acting as a catalyst to trigger the body's natural self-healing response.  Reiki is also an excellent stand alone treatment for minor ailments and works on a  mental, emotional, spiritual and physical level to encourage optimum health and wellbeing. However, it is important to note that healing is not the same as curing and whilst Reiki will have a positive effect on your health you should not discontinue  any prescribed medication and should always see your doctor if you have any health concerns. 

IS IT ALL TO DO WITH THE PLACEABO EFFECT?

The placaebo effect may be part of it but it is much more than that.  Reiki is cosmic energy channelled by the practitioner and drawn in by the recipient where it is needed the most and both the practitioner and the recipient will benefit from the treatment.  Reiki can be given to tiny babies and people in a coma who are unaware on a conscious level they are being given healing.  In addition, plants have been treated successfully with Reiki and there are many stories of amazing results when using Reiki for Animals.
