Meditation and Reiki go hand in hand and during 1st Degree Reiki Training you will be introduced to gassho meditation as part of Hatsu lei ho which was practised by Dr Usui and his students. Hatsu lei ho is a start-up technique which reinforces our connection to the Reiki energy. The practice incorporates joshin koku ho (breathing technique) chanting the five Reiki principles and gassho meditation.
Now the majority of my Reiki 1 students tell me they have tried to meditate in the past with limited success. However, gassho is a very simple meditation and centering yourself by focusing on the breath with the hands resting close to the heart in the prayer position is a good introduction to meditation that will enhance your Reiki practice significantly. Similarly, regular self-healing with Reiki will reinforce your ability to meditate and for beginners I recommend establishing a routine by setting aside a regular time and place to meditate each day. Whether it is just a particular chair in your bedroom or another quiet spot where you won't be disturbed its advisable to start off by practising for five minutes twice daily, building it up gradually.
We cannot heal others until we have healed ourselves but we have all been guilty at times of making the excuse that we don't have time for self-healing. Admittedly 21st century living is fast paced but the secret is to incorporate Reiki and meditation into your life. Practice it when you are lying in bed before you go to sleep and again on waking before you get out of bed in the morning. If you are on public transport you can give yourself Reiki quite unobtrusively. Know one need know and I have had some wonderful Reiki treatments on train journeys. The more you practice the easier the Reiki will flow and the greater benefits you will receive and to give you inspiration simple meditation and self-healing exercises are posted regularly on the Latest News page of this website.
Make your bathroom a haven by giving Reiki to the water while visualising Reiki coming from the taps or shower head. If you have Reiki 2 or 3, draw the symbols in the water to heighten the vibration. Add a few drops of pure essential oil to some unscented bath foam, give Reiki to the blend for a few minutes and then add it to the water and there you go. Much of my meditation is done in the bathroom.
Meditation can take many different forms and as well as gassho meditation you can meditate while chanting a mantra, meditate on a mandala, candle flame or flower and 2nd Degree Reiki introduces further meditations using the Reiki symbols. During Reiki 2 class you will also learn how to use the distance symbol as a bridge of light to connect with your Reiki guides, the ascended masters, your power animal...anyone or anything who can assist you on your spiritual journey. Reiki 1 students can connect by utilising the power of visualisation.
If you would like to make the most out of your Reiki practice and feel you need to spend more time self-healing I host regular workshops to assist you on your Reiki journey.
The workshops are ongoing and open to students of all levels and beginning with Hatsu Lei Ho in the way of Dr Usui's students we will work with different vibrational tools including colour, essential oils, sound in the form of music, mantra, humming and white noise as well as guided visualisation. The workshops begin at
